My art portfolio this year has been influenced by a variety of amazing travel opportunities. We sailed North to Desolation Sound and enjoyed the majesty of this area as well as the beauty of Princess Louisa Inlet. The differing colours and textures of ocean, mountains, beaches, and sunsets continue to inspire me. Mystic; Chatterbox Falls , Tidal, Poppies, and Adventure reflect this experience.
I continue to be inspired by the works of Gerhard Richter and Willem de Kooning and appreciate the more abstract representations of their work. Plays on colour, drip and paint “smearing” show up in Peace, Fusion , Beach and Vista.
Last I was fortunate to attend a class at the Gibsons School of Art and studied with Blu Smith, an artist from Victoria . This class took me down a new “journey” of working with charcoal, using lots of black and challenging myself to keep more unpainted areas on a canvas. Some interesting pieces emerged from this class, notably; Change, Universe, Primordial, Lamb Chop and The Cat Came Back!
Local artist Jeanne Krabbendam continues to be a great mentor and inspires me to take on new and different challenges with paint and texture.
CoVid challenged all of us to look outside our box while remaining safe within our box. During this time, I ventured into Wire Art, Song lyrics, and more recently digital photography. Such fun!
